(George W. Gray III photo)
Manufacurted by the Cowing & Company of Seneca Falls, NY, Sellersville Borough purchased this pumper
from the Blairsville Fire Company in Indiana County, PA. Although never in service there, this
No. 4 Crane-Neck style fire engine was one of the first pieces of apparatus for the Borough's newly
formed fire company.
In the early or mid 1900's, the pumper was painted red. It was only during minor resoration work in the 50's or 60's
that the original forrest green color was discovered. In 2009, it was shipped to north Maine to Fire Fly Restoration,
where for two years, it underwent a major restoration. July 2011, the pumper was returned to the
Department in the original colors.
On September 24th, 2011, the Department attended the Pennsylvania Firemen's convention hosted in Lake Harmony.
The Hand Pumper won 1st place in the fire company owned, non-motorized antique category, as well as
the inaugural President's Award for Best of show for antique apparatus.
