TRAIN DERAILMENT

At 1438 hours, tactical box 27-14 was dispatched for a reported train derailment in Sellersville Borough. Shortly after Deputy 26 (Boshell) went responding, BCR advised the best access to the train was going to be from Jessica Lane off of Ninth Street.

Deputy 26, Deputy 59 (Chavous), and Engine 27-1 (LT Gray) all arrived on Jessica simultaneously. The Chief’s climbed up the grade to the tracks to meet the engineer and conductor of the train and found that 3 refrigerated box cars carrying butter had rolled over the tracks and were leaking diesel fuel from their reefer units. Engine 27-1’s crew placed a ladder for better access and deployed 600’ of 3” line to their high rise bag as a protection line in case of any fire, as Chief 27 (Wagner) arrived and established Sellersville Command.

Montgomery County Rescue 74 (Souderton) and Ladder 75 (Telford) made access from the Church Street side of the tracks from the cemetery with Utility and Hazmat 27, where they deployed booms and absorbent prodructs to contain the diesel fuel from traveling further down the creek.

SFD units remained on scene until 2130 hours until the cleanup crews arrived to begin the long cleanup process.

Units on scene - Engine 27-1, Utility and Hazmat 27, Rescue 26, Rescue 59, Rescue 74, Engine 74-1, Ladder 75, Hazmat 89-2 from the County Hazmat team, and Bucks 1 (County Command Vehicle)

Other agencies on scene - Perkasie Police, Sellersville and Perkasie Emergency managment representatives, Grandview Health Medic 151, Pennsylvania State Police, PA DEP, and the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
