Knox Box Program
The goal of the Sellersville Fire Department is to provide the best and most up-to-date service to the people and businesses in our fire protection area. In order to enter your building without forced entry, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in response to fire alarms or other emergency conditions, the Sellersville Fire Department has adopted the Knox Rapid Entry System also referred to as the Knox Box Program.
Knox Rapid Entry System will provide the following:
- Minimum response time
- Reduced on scene time
- Prevent or minimize damage to the building by immediate entry
- Eliminate the need for someone to bring the key, 70% of alarms are false alarms
- The ability to re-lock the building, probably the most important point when it's a false alarm, or damage is light to moderate
Knox Boxes are constructed of 1/4" solid steel, with a 1/2" steel door and reinforced locking mechanism. They are UL1037 listed against physical attack and the Medeco security lock is patented and UL listed for drill, pick, and pull resistance. The Knox Company has been providing Fire Departments this system for over 20 years and has provided hundreds of thousands of devices throughout the nation. Currently over 3,700 Fire Departments and the communities they protect, enjoy the benefits of this proven system.
The master key to open the Knox Box is held by the Sellersville Fire Department and the Perkasie Police Department. SFD spent $7,000 to install lock boxes in the apparatus and Command cars to ensure security of the Knox key. This high security key is strictly controlled and is produced only by the Medeco factory under direction from an authorized fire official's signature. Knox Company can be reached at their website at www.knoxbox.com or by telephone at 1-800-552-5669.
Knox Boxes are specified by the Sellersville Fire Department but are purchased directly from the Knox Company. Once installed near the entrance of your property, the Department locks your building entrance/Master key(s) inside the Knox Box so that it is available onsite for future emergencies.
It is our goal to give the best service to the people and businesses in our fire protection area. Therefore, we utilize the most effective firefighting equipment and systems. We hope you will work with us to incorporate the Knox Rapid Entry System. Please call us with your comments or questions at 215-257-4028.
