Fire Prevention Month

October was a busy yet fun month for the Sellersville Fire Department and the Fire Prevention Committee.  Fire Prevention week was held on the week of October 9th through 15th.  SFD firefighters visited 8 different schools and daycare facilities which included; Kids Are First, Sellersville Elementary, Upper Bucks Christian Academy, Faith Christian Academy’s Liberty Campus, Grandview Daycare, Faith Christian Academy, Schoolhouse Learning, and West Rockhill Elementary.  Firefighters from SFD had the privilege and honor to speak to over 100 teachers and 1,445 students at the aforementioned schools.

Topics that were taught to the students and teachers ranged from; Fire Safety tips, Stop Drop and Roll, Dressed up in our turnout gear, and talked to the 4th and 5th graders about peer pressures and different life situations they may encounter as they get older.  We also discussed in great length about the NFPA’s fire prevention message which was “Don’t Wait Check the Date.”  This message means and suggests you to replace smoke alarms (detectors) every 10 years.

SFD’s annual Open House was held on Saturday October 22nd which ends our busy yet exciting month.  Even though Mother Nature was not on our side this year, we were still able to host our party and managed a crowd of over 500 people. This year guests included were, Grandview Medic 151, Perkasie Police, Pennridge Regional Police, Bucks County Fire Marshal’s Office, EDS, ServPro, Moyer’s, Pennridge FISH, and the Biker’s Against Child Abuse.

This year SFD and Moyer’s service put together a canned good raffle to benefit the Pennridge FISH organization.  We are proud to say that we donated over 500 pounds of food collected at the Open House to help assist Pennridge FISH!

We would like to thank our Fire Prevention Committee for their hard work in planning, organizing, and running the different fire prevention events this year.  We also would like to thank our supporters, that’s YOU our residents.  We look forward to Fire Prevention in October of 2017.

At 2115 hours, Station 27 was dispatched with Medic 151 for this accident on Bethlehem Pike in the area of Weikel Road in West Rockhill Township. While responding, BCR reported to Deputy 27 of possible entrapment in the 1 vehicle accident. Negative entrapment was found and the Department was available a short time later.

Congratulations to Michael Tomkinson, the SFD recipient of the 2016 Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce Emergency Service Award. “Bull”, as he is known by most of us, was our 2015 Firefighter of the Year.

Painting on Canvas

On October 23rd from 3-5, the SFD Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting a Painting on Canvas fundraiser at the Fire House.

The cost is $35 per person, per 11 x 14 canvas that is provided. The number of seats is limited to 80 people, so be sure to pre-register with Startdust Ceramics at (215) 257-2632 to reserve your spot.

Open House

We apologize that we have been a little slow on advertising our annual Open House this year, but fear not, we are still having it! Our open house will be Saturday October 22nd from 12-3. As always there will be plenty of fire trucks to check out, a smoke house, moon bounce, car fire demonstrations, vehicle rescue, and much more.

Also this year, Moyer’s Services Group Inc has donated a TV for us to raffle off. The open house committee have decided to get tickets, we ask that you please bring a canned good(s) to be donated to the Pennridge FISH.
